Neenah High School Jazz Bands

Lab Band

Open to all students grades 9-12. Flexible instrumentation with traditional jazz instruments. Lab Band performs 3 times per year - at the annual Stompin’ At The Savoy jazz dance, Solo & Ensemble and the spring Rocket City Jazz concert.

Intermediate Jazz Ensemble

The Intermediate Jazz Ensemble (iJazz) is open to all students grades 9-12. Auditioned in the fall, iJazz follows standard 18-person big band instrumentation. iJazz performs 5 times per year - at the fall Opener concert, the annual Stompin’ At The Savoy jazz dance, Solo & Ensemble and the spring Rocket City Jazz concert. iJazz also travels to compete at one jazz festival each year.

Advanced Jazz Ensemble

The Advanced Jazz Ensemble (aJazz) is open to all students grades 10-12. Auditioned in the spring of the previous school year, aJazz follows standard 18-person big band instrumentation and often includes a vocalist. aJazz is a curricular class that meets every other day throughout the school year. As the premier jazz ensemble at NHS, aJazz performs at nearly every concert of the school year. They frequently host professors for clinics and workshops and perform the headliner set at the annual Stompin’ At The Savoy jazz dance featuring guest artists. aJazz regularly performs at State Solo & Ensemble and travels overnight each year to compete at one or more jazz festivals.

Jazz Combo

Open to all students grades 10-12, the Jazz Combo is an auditioned subset of The Advanced Jazz Ensemble. Instrumentation changes yearly but typically features 3 horns and a traditional rhythm section.

The Jazz combo performs at many events throughout the year and is for hire!
